Smawg
The South Moreland Avenue Working Group is a multi-neighborhood collaboration in order to make Moreland Avenue safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. Moreland Avenue is the most dangerous and highly trafficked corridors in Atlanta in the city- it ranks first in Atlanta on the High Injury Network, the 8% of streets where 88% of fatal crashes happen in our city. SMAWG works closely with GDOT, ATLDOT, and APD to improve connectivity and safety. As the East Atlanta representative, I advocate for East Atlanta residents’ needs at both internal and external SMAWG meetings and share updates from SMAWG at East Atlanta neighborhood association meetings. This group has successfully applied for a $500k grant to redesign Moreland Avenue and we are currently in the process of planning the redesign.
Food Sustainability in the Methow Valley
The Methow Valley is a resilient community with high civic involvement and progressive values where institutions, organizations, and citizens dynamically respond to each other’s needs by sharing resources and information. The Methow Valley has been remarkably resilient during Covid-19 and this project explores the difference between the food systems in the Methow and the national food system.
Carbon Footprint Calculator
Our team created a website that allows users to calculate their carbon footprint and compare their footprint with the average footprint from different countries around the world. It uses regularly updated data from the EPA and gives you a national and global sense of the problem. This project won first place at Georgia Tech's Humanitech Hackathon 2016.
There are three tabs on this website:
1. Carbon emission calculator- allows you to enter inputs and determines your footprint. It uses Bootstrap formatting and sends data to the other pages
2. National comparison- uses the Google Maps API and jquery to show relative color-coded CO2 emission rates by state in the U.S.
3. International comparison- shows your carbon footprint relative to the carbon footprint of the average person from ten different countries
